A pool serve as many things for your home: A high-traffic recreation area, a perfect place to entertain, the visual centerpiece for your back yard. That’s one of the reasons it is important to keep the pool deck in good condition. If your concrete pool deck is starting to settle, causing cracking or sections of the slab to become uneven, concrete leveling could be the answer to keep your deck attractive and functional.
Childers Brothers offers polyurethane foam concrete leveling solutions in Northwest Texas, serving cities such as Amarillo, Lubbock, Abilene, Midland and Odessa. We also serve portions of Eastern New Mexico, including Roswell, Hobbs and Clovis.

Concrete slabs are heavy and, if the soil underneath isn’t properly compacted or suffers from erosion or other damage, they will sink.
Many of the symptoms of settling slabs are the same whether it is a sidewalk, driveway or porch. Because of the function of pool decks, however, the problems posed by each of them might be a bit more significant.
How often have parents told children not to run on the pool deck? And how often have the children listened? (Or, let’s face it, some of the adults as well)
There’s a reason. Accidents near pools are inherently more dangerous. That’s why it is important to keep the pool deck free of trip hazards.
And if the concrete cracks or settling leads to unevenness between sections of the deck, trip and fall hazards are exactly what you will get.
When a large concrete slab begins to settle and sink, it doesn’t do so evenly. This places great amounts of stress on the concrete. And when the concrete is stressed, it begins to crack, weakening the slab.
While cracking might not always continue to get worse, it isn’t going to get better. And there is a chance that the longer the problem goes unfixed, the worse the concrete problems are going to get until the only solution will be the expensive options of tearing it out and pouring a new slab.
While the cracking and the uneven sections pose their own issues, they also, well, let’s just say detract from the aesthetics of the pool area.
If you are envisioning your pool area as an entertainment area and a visual centerpiece for your yard, this is probably not the look you are going for. Cracking, crumbling concrete is not pleasing to the eye.
Most concrete is, or should be, laid with drainage in mind. This goes doubly for a pool deck where not only do you have to worry about rain but also the water splashing out of the pool.
When concrete begins to settle, though, it changes the grading. If you are lucky, it will simply flow faster the way you want it to. If you are not, however, it could cause issues.
While each project will vary slightly depending on circumstances, if your pool deck is in need of leveling, we will first conduct an inspection to determine if injecting concrete leveling foam is the right course of action.
If it is, we will next determine the precise locations where the foam should be injected. We will then drill a small, coin-sized hole at each injection site, keeping damage to the concrete to an absolute minimum.
After the holes have been drilled, we inject the expanding polyurethane foam, constantly monitoring the results to ensure that we avoid problems with over-lifting.
Finally we clean the site and fill the injection holes, leaving a level pool deck.
Foam provides several advantages to other forms of concrete raising. It is impervious to water or chemicals, so it won’t break down. It will remain strong for the life of the slab.
Also, the holes needed are much smaller than for options such as mudjacking. That keeps the patching needed to a minimum, creating a cleaner end result.
If your concrete pool deck needs to be leveled, Childers Brothers has the scientifically-proven tools and expertise to do so, saving you from the far greater cost of replacing the entire deck. Contact us today for more information on our concrete leveling services.
